Bug Description

Some of the symbols in the library have datasheet field visibility on as a default. After I'm done capturing schematic, I try to populate all the datasheets for all the symbols using "Edit Symbol Fields" option. However, it kind of defeats the purpose of the tool, because there is no way to affect visibility of the field in the "Edit Symbol Fields" tool. So afterword you have to go through each individual component and uncheck the visibility check mark. There needs to be visibility check marks right there in the tool. You can add the checkmarks easily in the left pane, right next to Show and Group By columns.

One more thing here related to the datasheet field visibility. Let's say that you entered a link in the datasheet field for a symbol and discovered that all of them are visible now throughout the whole schematic. You go back and try to delete it utilizing the same tool, only to discover that when you delete a field and hit save nothing changes. You actually have to enter something into the cell, even if it is just a space and then hit save for the new value to take.

Having both a "Show" and a "Visibility" checkbox there will hopelessly confuse many users (perhaps even me).

A better strategy might be a dialog like PCBNew's Edit Text and Graphics Properties where you could just whack the Datasheet fields of everything to some specified property set. It would also come in handy for global editing of text sizes and styles.

Are you sure about the bug in comment #1? I know it used to work that way, but it was fixed for 5.1 (and it's still working fine for me).
