Bug Description

Pcbnew can copy and paste between files. However, I need to first unselect the copied selection, otherwise pasting to the other board doesn't work.

1. Have a project with a pcb board file opened.
2. Open a standalone pcbnew and open a board file.
3. Copy something from the standalone board. Don't click there again.
4. Try to paste to the other board. It doesn't paste.
5. Click on the standalone board to unselect the selected things.
6. Try again to paste to the other board. Now it works.

My impression is that you try to paste items, while the source pcbnew window is still at 'select reference point' stage. Please check the left bottom status bar for 'Select reference point for the block being copied' message.

FWIW, the status bar message was moved to a popup in 5.1 as many others were suffering this same fate.

Indeed, it was not a bug, it was a well hidden feature. The popup works much better, thanks for that.

Yeah I had this same problem before in 5.0, which is what I have now. Is 5.1 released now as a stable version? Or is it a nightly build or how do I get it?

It's a nightly build. It's pretty early in the release, so don't expect much in the way of stability.
