Bug Description

Application: kicad
Version: (5.0.0-rc2-dev-273-ga931ac4), release build
Libraries:
    wxWidgets 3.0.4
    libcurl/7.54.0 LibreSSL/2.0.20 zlib/1.2.11 nghttp2/1.24.0
Platform: Mac OS X (Darwin 17.5.0 x86_64), 64 bit, Little endian, wxMac
Build Info:
    wxWidgets: 3.0.4 (UTF-8,STL containers,compatible with 2.8)
    Boost: 1.61.0
    Curl: 7.43.0
    Compiler: Clang 7.3.0 with C++ ABI 1002

Build settings:
    USE_WX_GRAPHICS_CONTEXT=ON
    USE_WX_OVERLAY=ON
    KICAD_SCRIPTING=ON
    KICAD_SCRIPTING_MODULES=ON
    KICAD_SCRIPTING_WXPYTHON=ON
    KICAD_SCRIPTING_ACTION_MENU=ON
    BUILD_GITHUB_PLUGIN=ON
    KICAD_USE_OCE=ON
    KICAD_SPICE=ON

In pcbnew, using the '3D Shape Downloader', selecting a single library (in this case Package_QFP.3dshapes). The library downloads correctly, but the UI is unresponsive once it's complete.

Confirmed, also on Mac OS.
Does not happen on Windows in 5.0.0-rc2-dev-20-g55edf1aad or in 5.0.0-rc2-dev-279-g5b653c0c1, so I'm guessing it's a Mac-specific issue.

Should this be fixed in the current nightly release (5.0.0-rc2-dev-325-g952aa7a)? I tested it and there was no difference.

It is fixed for me in latest nightly. Is the behavior exactly the same for you? I was able to reproduce this behavior on my Mac and then found what seemed to me to be the root cause.

The issue is still the same, on two machines that I have tried. I'm on 10.13.4 beta 7 on both machines (MacBook Pro 6,1 and Mac Pro 5,1)(maybe the issue is worse with this beta version)

I've also found that this problems (the GUI not responding) seems to happen when any download is attempted from GitHub. Same problem happened in EESCHEMA trying to download libraries.

Tom, when does eeschema download libraries? There is no Github plugin for the schematics editor IIRC.

You're right, it's the footprint editor, not eeschema. Using the footprint library wizard to download from GitHub .

Ok, that's something I have also noticed and supposedly fixed.
