Bug Description

During editing with Eeschema from time to time the cursor freezes and there is no other activity possible but closing the editing window. Saving the changes made so far is possible. Restart of Eeschema and continuing editing is possible until the next freeze. KiCad V4.0.6 did not have this problem.

Hi Nick,

the freeze is only within the eeschema window. The system cursor still moves but the eeschema cursor stops at its last position). Therefore I am able to close the window (red cross button at top left), reopen eeschema and continue until next freeze.

My first thought was a problem with the MS win10 mouse driver (I am using a logitech mouse), but the replacement with the latest logitech driver did not help. The failure happens statistically.

Best regards Roland

A quite similar effect happens with the Component Library Editor. The cursor still moves, but I am not able to select and delete parts of the component drawing, e.g. a pin. After closing and reopening the editor it works. Regards Roland

Hi Nick,

that's maybe a good hit for debugging:

When I get the cursor freeze a switch from the application window (e.g. eeschema) to the main KiCad window and back to application resolves the freeze.

Hi Nick,

now I am able to trigger the freeze:

Example:

eeschema: cursor hovers over component
right mouse button + E ---> no problem
right mouse button, selection: Bauteil editieren, close property window ----> freeze

Regards Roland

I am having the same problem plus it seems to happen in PcbNew. These three bug reports (1654854, 1734797, 1734882) all seem to be related. When I initially installed 4.0.7 release build. It was working correctly. I am not 100% sure but, I think the problem started this week when my Windows 10 Pro updated to the Fall Creators update. Several things will unlock the cursor, including opening and closing Help/About in eeschema. I have tried reinstalling and tried the Nov 25th nightly build. Nothing has helped.

Also happening to me, once the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update installed. Happens with 4.0.6 and 4.0.7

I can work around by minimizing the window and maximizing it (cursor gets back in the right state when you do that), or by using the V/U/F shortcuts to edit values instead of right-clicking to edit values

I think a screen record does not show anything. The cursor is frozen and does not respond to mouse actions unless the mouse is moved outside the KiCAD window.

Did't you say that it was the cross-hair that was frozen and not the system cursor?

To Nick: Yes, it is only the KiCAD cursor, which gets frozen. The system cursor/moise pointer still works autside the KiCAD window.
