Bug Description

This is a wishlist item.

For the kiway messaging between layout and schematic to work (enabling cross-probing, etc), it appears that the top-level schematic sheet and the PCB layout file must have the same base name. That is, a design mixer.pro needs to have mixer.sch and mixer.kicad_pcb.

Some users' organizations track schematic/assemblies and PCB layouts as separate items with separate part numbers. And to make things clear, a schematic will have a filename S_PARTNUM.sch and the associated layout will have a filename PCB_PARTNUM.kicad_pcb. Some organizations have rules about changing file names manually in preparation for board/assembly release.

This breaks the crossprobe messaging.

The wishlist proposal, therefore, is to allow arbitrary names for the schematic sheets and the layout within the project, and for the project manager to have an option that lets the user specify the top-level schematic sheet, if it cannot infer the top-level from the hierarchy. (It's probably easiest to just require that the user set the top level sheet.)

I assume that only one PCB file will be allowed in a project.

I'm closing this one out for now. If someone wants to implement it, that would be great, but it would be a decent amount of work and it's not clear that very many users would use it.
