Bug Description

Under XFCE, when Cvpcb is launched from within Eeschema, navigating the menus "Preferences" -> "Edit library table" results in the modal dialog not being rendered. The only way to recover seems to be killing the process.

Launching Cvpcb standalone to edit the netlist works fine.

This is very similar in behavior to #1431391.

Application: cvpcb
Version: (2015-03-14 BZR 5512)-product Release build
wxWidgets: Version 3.0.2 (debug,wchar_t,compiler with C++ ABI 1002,GCC 4.9.2,wx containers,compatible with 2.8)
Platform: Linux 3.18.6-1-ARCH x86_64, 64 bit, Little endian, wxGTK
Boost version: 1.57.0
         USE_WX_GRAPHICS_CONTEXT=OFF
         USE_WX_OVERLAY=OFF
         KICAD_SCRIPTING=OFF
         KICAD_SCRIPTING_MODULES=OFF
         KICAD_SCRIPTING_WXPYTHON=OFF
         USE_FP_LIB_TABLE=HARD_CODED_ON
         BUILD_GITHUB_PLUGIN=ON
         KICAD_USE_WEBKIT=OFF

Good...
Looks like some dialogs are open but not shown ( currently for some obscure reason for me ) on some windows managers.
But at least I am now able to reproduce this kind of issue on Ubuntu 10.10 with Unity windows manager.
Perhaps some dialogs still have this issue. Feel free to send a bug report related to this problem.

I'm having the same behavior when I try to open the Edit dialog of a
Hierarchical Sheet Pin, even in 5513 build.

Platform: Linux 3.18.6-1-ARCH x86_64, 64 bit, Little endian, wxGTK
wxWidgets 3.0.2
GCC 4.9.2
XFCE
boost 1.57.0

I'm trying to understand a little bit more about what's exactly happening.
It seems that if I start the process of eeschema alone and open the same
schematics, it doesn't happen.
Another thing: I switched my work on a project to windows due to this
problem, windows build is 5509. When I try to open the same project again
on Linux, eeschema is not opening if started by Kicad.

 I believe it started for me (Arch Linux with XFCE) after this system update:
