text rotation via hotkey only by 90°

Ir pcbnew, text rotation via hotkey or rightclick -> "rotate text" ignores 45° rotation angle setting (but it's possible to achieve 45° or any other rotation by setting the desired angle in the text properties).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Set 45° rotation angle in general settings.
2. Rotate text by rotation hotkey or via rightclick menu.

Outcome:
Text will be rotated by 90°, not by 45°.

Was it ever supposed to work that way? The settings regarding 45 degrees is the pcbnew global settings only apply to tracks and graphic lines not text or modules, and that only limiting the angles.

It used to work that way but it created this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/kicad/+bug/1066182 so I disabled the optional rotation angles until it can be fixed properly. This was due to what I like to call a "drive by patch or commit". The person who made this change, never followed through and fixed the undo issue. Since it is not commonly used, it tends to effect very few users. You can always use the footprint properties dialog to rotate the footprint to any angle you wish. It may not be as convenient as using the rotate hot key but it works and the undo works correctly as well. It is not a terribly difficult problem to fix. If I get some free time, I will take a look at it. I will also accept patches that are a complete solution including correctly undoing the rotations that are not 90°.
