"Type here" field doesn't respond to keyboard

Bug Description
I'm on ubuntu 11.10, I have 0.1.1-0ubuntu3 installed. I can't remove the 'type here' text and any keystrokes in this field have no effect.

11.10, cannot remove "Type Here..." and any input does not go to gnome-terminal, spawned or otherwise. On the other hand, it seems to work fine with pidgin and xchat.
