Not sure the right way to mark this as duplicate, but this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/keyboardcast/+bug/814868 is. This appears to be just as broken in Precise as in Oineric.

I have additional information. If you start up a bunch of X terminals and select them with keyboardcast, then it works just fine. So this appears to be a problem with GNOME terminal specifically.

Note that isn't a work-around, that's just a troubleshooting step. Xterms suck and I really don't want to use them for a variety of reasons. I want to use GNOME terminals. I imagine most people are like me in this regard.

Aha! A reasonable work-around. Install "mate-terminal" (from the Linux MATE desktop project) and run it. It's just GNOME terminal from GNOME2, and keyboardcast will control it just fine.
