I suppose it was a clean install of amd64?

Yes, a clean install. I am no longer using that install, however, so I do not know if the problem exists in more recent versions. When I get some time I will test the Karmic betas. Please leave this issue open to remind me to check this issue on 64 bit Karmic. Thanks.

As stated in the upstream report this got nothing to do with the architecture. It probably was some temporary issue of Jaunty RC.

Possibly, but I did not have the issue on a 32 bit test system. I will try to go through Karmic soon to either confirm or dispel the issue there.

Thanks, Harold!
