Bug Description

We need to wire in the context drop downs into the LiveSearch. It looks like the only one we have wired in right now is "this community," so we need to add the others "this directory," "community descriptions", others?

"This directory". It is clear what it means. The question is, when should this be present?

- or, shall we have another condition?

"community descriptions", what does this mean? Can you specify what happens when someone selects this? An example is good too.

*This Directory - Should be present whenever a user is in the People Directory or an individual People Directory report
*This Community - Should search content in the community the user is in
*Community Descriptions - This is meant to replace the search box on the main Communities tab, so it should appear when a user is on the Communities tab. Currently, the communities search box searches a community's title, description and Overview tab text, so we should just mimic that behavior
*Network News - Should appear when a user is in Network News
*This Calendar - Should appear when a user is in the Global Staff Calendar

And one that we had discussed previously, but I'm not sure where things were left:

*This Office - Should be present when a user is on KARL office homepage

Paul, please chime in if I'm missing anything.

Some questions about the exact semantics.

- always?
- or, together when "community" option is shown? (currently on the condition if we are inside a community)
- or, shall we have another condition?

I also just realized that we have a search box on the Global Tag cloud - do we need to add a Tag Cloud option?

Network News is a tougher one because it has the box that narrows the search by date. Thus, we have to repeat the searchbox there.

I am in a good progress with the searchbox (live search) overhaul (more details about that soon). In the light of this, the new "context filters" should be added to the new search box.

In the new implementation, currently, there are two "contexts" allowed: all karl, and this community. We decide this based on the url (context) of the current page, and this is the place where we can offer any number of

Also in my opinion: To keep the UI understandable and well functioning, we should not try to cram more features into the "context filter". It should simply do what it's meant for: limit the result set to a given subtree from the sensible choices that we offer to the given page. If any other type of filtering or modification of search behaviour is needed beyond that, I would prefer to add another checkbox / dropdown, not only because it leads to cleaner code but also because it makes the UI cleaner for the user.

I agree with your opinion, we shouldn't try to jam every possible search into the global searchbox. It was my idea originally but I've since come to dislike that idea.

In many places where we wanted to replace a search (e.g. the communities listing, the people reports) what we are really doing is filtering the results of a "paginated" listing or grid.

Since we know we want to replace pagination with infinite scrolling, perhaps we can just adopt a filter box in the header of any new grid.

But again, like everything else, we have to find out if UX2 is going forward or not.
