"Add Layer" has very wide select box

In the attached screenshot, we see that adding a layer produces a <select> box that is so wide, it flows out and into the right column. This is somewhat pathological, as only administrators see all the communities that includes some long-titled communities.

Still, we should fix this. Using a Python expression in the tal:repeat to chop off some of the characters on the <option> label would suffice, perhaps with an ellipsis. Or, do it in the view.
