juju user data has display name and name

Bug #1596603 reported by Richard Harding on 2016-06-27

Bug Description

In several areas when outputting User information there's both a "display name" and a "name".

I can't find any way to generate or change a display name. This seems like unnecessary artifact that we should remove.

This shows in:

  juju show-model (owner, display name
  juju users

Cheryl Jennings (cherylj) wrote :

The user's display name is an optional argument to the add-user command:

Usage: juju add-user [options] <user name> [<display name>]

Should it be removed from that command?

I think that it might be useful at some point in the future, but it's not editable currently and it's just a copy of the current data and not exposed throughout all places users are output. I'd suggest removing it for 2.0 and doing it "properly" through the entire codebase if required in the future.

Currently, it's clutter without any real wins and adds to the mental overhead of users.
