user@external does not work for groups

Bug Description

Granting access to a user does not work for groups. We should add a check if a user is member of any groups defined by group_name@external. This will allow to add access to a group of people to the controller.

Just to clarify the request: this means that we can't put a controller on canonistack or any other cloud and opening it for many users for (scale) testing without having to go through a maintenance nightmare.
