Sidebar does not open if GUI is loaded in the background

Bug Description

Steps to reproduce:
In Chrome, load the GUI on your local machine or comingsoon with at least one other tab open.
After the GUI has loaded, hit ctrl+r and quickly switch to the other tab.
Wait for 10s or so so the GUI is fully loaded.
Switch back to the GUI tab and the sidebar did not animate open.

If you click on the (grey) tab it changes the url to /minimized and then the tab turns orange but stays minimized. Clicking it again opens as expected.

OSX 10.9 Chrome 31.0

Unable to reproduce on my systems with chrome 33.

Huw also noted he was unable to reproduce.
