'ERROR while removing instance' when destroying lxd environment

Lately I've been getting errors when I destroy a LXD environment:

$ juju destroy-environment lxd -y

Sometimes retrying the destroy-environment command will work, sometimes I have to 'lxc delete' instances.

This is with Juju 1.26-alpha3-trusty-amd64 (master 45caf1ce8ad1c59e3b72b4094b0cafb98c335ed9).

I haven't since 2.0-rc8. juju kill-controller seems reliable. I think this is pretty old and we can close it or mark invalid.
