Crash bug: ranger skins

Bug Description

Sometimes the 'skin' skill results in a bugged skin, which causes no problems so long as it remains in the game but will cause a crash when an attempt is made to remove the skin from the game, whether by force-renting, dt'ing, etc. It has been handled in the past by having people turn in buggy skins and putting them in a sack stored in the imm complex, but that is obviously a coping strategy, not a fix.

Needs a tester to try to reproduce this. Looks like a tough one though. Please add any information on the circumstances around this occurring as comments on this bug.

I agree here, I would have to see the stats on the skins. I am going to look further. I have made some changes in skins, but nothing that would of fixed that I believe.

I think its possible that since adding the delay after each skin is made that the problem went away. It certainly happened when a cleric was helping to churn out skins.

Only way I see to reproduce it/test it is to make a restore device that a ranger could use with no limits for this explicit test and make skins for a few days...

Maybe some kind of special dispensation to a char to multi a ranger explicitly for this purpose...

I've seen this one personally. It can take hundreds of skins to get a bugged one.

AVTR+ can skin. It could potentially be tested out with an immortal.

If we allow a player to multi, they should be restricted to the God Complex.

Posted for Gambler, who is having trouble posting himself, for some reason.

I thought this bug was wiped out a couple years ago. Unless I'm mistaken, it happened when a duplicate skin was made at the interger flip 127-128, making the second skin undefined. While the 'skin' did not have a name (ie, you couldn't look, examine, identify, or junk), you 'could' confine it by 'put all container'.

Regardless, I think this one was wiped out. I just made 2,000 skins with Xon in the last week with no
undefined skins (the frequency was actually slightly higher than that).
It should be noted that a back tick does appear in the string of some skins, but doesn't cause any instability. It looks like this for a comparison:

furry breeches from the corpse of a hyena
furry breeches from the corpse`of a hyena
