Bug Description
Checking out a SVN repository for the first time is very slow. It takes ~10 seconds to check the status of a SVN repository and ~20 seconds to actually check the repository out.
This is made worse due to using a synchronous AJAX request which cause some browsers (older versions of Firefox, Chrome) to lock up until they get a response. Making the browser look like it's crashed is bad.
