WL: php55u-pecl-memcached

I received a request via email for php55u-pecl-memcached. With all new package requests, we evaluate if it would be a good fit for IUS and if it is maintainable with our current resources. Seeing that we already have his module for php53u and php54, it makes the evaluation very straight forward.

I have got an initial build and it has been tagged as test-candidate. It will be in placed in the testing repos tonight and can take around 24 hours to hit all the mirrors.

We have yet to hear back from the requester of this package nor does it seem that we will. This package will get moved to the development repos. If someone else will test this package we can get it moved into the stable repos.

What is involved in testing? I'm surprised that more requests for this package aren't made. I just installed the package from the dev repo for a development project I'll be releasing to production in November. I can offer feedback on any issues I run into???

Hey Chris,

Good question. With new package requests, we ask the requester to test the package before we move it into the stable repos. We want to make sure the package works and the requester really needs it before we are on the hook for maintaining it. It is not uncommon for someone to request a new package, then the scope of their project changes and they don't need it any more.

In regards to testing, we are not necessarily asking someone to test every feature and configuration option. We are more looking for a 'works for me' or give feedback for changes.

I installed on centos 6.5 with php55u from ius and it's working as per the advertising.

Is this the appropriate place to request that the package be built with igbinary support?

Hey Stephen,

Thanks for testing the package and giving us feedback. We will push this package into the stable repos on Monday, as we like to avoid making changes over the weekend.

In regards to new package requests, you are in the right place. Just create a new launchpad bug with WL: in the subject.
