Bug Description

Hello,

Our team in Intel tried to have a Ubuntu Desktop setup with Intel-Joule.

We followed the instructions in https://developer.ubuntu.com/core/get-started/intel-joule and downloaded iso file from http://people.canonical.com/~platform/snappy/tuchuck/desktop-final/tuchuck-xenial-desktop-iso-20170317-0.iso

Both of our team members saw similar issue when they try to boot the Joule from bootable USB. It just get in to an infinite loop error message “error: no such device: /.disk/casper-uuid.”

Later, Aurore Lariven pointed us to shared location : \\Vmspfsfsfm01\blackacre\Joule_Ubuntu_Releases\Ubuntu_DT_FINAL_Release

tuchuck-xenial-desktop-iso-20170317-0.iso taken from shared location working fine. MD5SUM mentioned on both locations shows same value 07e4895b2921117288ff611c6f5fea28.

We wanted to report it since many users will be picking iso from https://developer.ubuntu.com/core/get-started/intel-joule

Could you please check it.

Thanks.

Hi @Yashaswini,
I downloaded the ISO image from http://people.canonical.com/~platform/snappy/tuchuck/desktop-final/tuchuck-xenial-desktop-iso-20170317-0.iso, and created a installation media. The boot process ran normally and did not show any error. Could you please provide your procedures used to create the disk, serial console log and screenshot? Then we can do further investigation.

I bumped into the same issue this morning. i.e. when boot the Joule from bootable USB. It just get in to an infinite loop error message “error: no such device: /.disk/casper-uuid.”

What I (might) have just discovered:

- error occurs when the boot USB is formatted to GPT partition.
- error goes away when the boot USB is formatted to MBR partition.

i.e. I fixed the problem by using the MBR partition (instead of GPT). My guess is that Intel Joule supports only MBR and not GPT partition scheme?

Hope this helps?

Cheers,
Johnny
