Print vector graphics on pdf "software" printer

Bug Description

As inkscape does'nt have native PDF exports, and we
really need to generate PDFs with our work in inkscape,
we tried to print to Adobe Acrobat Distiller and many
other free alternative... And we got a heavy file, with
really low resolution, not suitable for anything.
Inkscape seems to send print data as bitmap instead of
vector data.

This is really what prevent us from switch from
Illustrator to Inkscape.

If native PDF export is a really hard to implement, at
least inkscape should send printing data as vector
graphics data instead of bitmap.

What sounds strange with this is when printing to a
normal printer, it takes seconds to send the data, and
the output is with the good resolution of the printer.
When printing to Distiller or other free alternative,
it takes minutes, output is a very heavy file with very
low resolution.

Why the output differs from real or software printer ?

What prevents you from exporting PS and distilling it?

Exporting to PS doesn't conserve transparency, or something
else, and results are not the same we have on
screen/directly printing in inkscape.

I read somewhere that PS level 3 could preserve
transparency, but were unable to find in inkscape where to
configure PS level to use.

PS does not have transparency in any level. Only PDF. So
basically what you request is direct export to PDF from
Inkscape. Distiller won't be able to help you if you need
transparency because it only converts PS. For now, you can
just avoid transparency or convert it to bitmap.

Try this.
Install pdfcreator.

Export your graphic as a .ps file
Drag the ps file into the pdfcreator print box.

You normally get a lovely small high quality pdf (unless
you've been bad and used transparenency).
