Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.2, 0.48.3.1 and Inkscape 0.48+devel r11171 on OS X 10.7.2 based on the minimal provided information (see attached sample file).
Please provide information about your OS/platform and Inkscape version (see Inkscape menu 'Help > About Inkscape'), and detailed steps to reproduce as well as a sample file to allow further investigation.
