Bug Description

I'm currently running Mac OS 10.7.2, with XQuartz 2.7.2_beta4 and I've installed Inkscape-0.48.2-1-SNOWLEOPARD.dmg from the website.

Inkscape crashes (XQuartz crashes also) when clicking inside the drawing area with the following tools: Select, Node, Zoom, Rectangle, 3D, Circle, Polygon, Spiral, Freehand, Bezier, Calligraphic, Text, Eraser and Eyedropper.

Apart from this Inkscape functions normally: I can resize the window, scroll up + down, select the 'fill and stroke' and 'text properties' etc

I am even able to click in the drawing area with some of the other tools without it crashing: Tweak, Spray, Fill Bucket, Gradient and the Diagram Connector (which successfully draws connections on the drawing area, they can even be moved around without crashing).

Below are the last lines in the console:

inkscape-bin: Fatal IO error 35 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server /tmp/launch-JR8gbQ/org.macosforge.xquartz:0.

I've also attached my ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/X11 log

Any questions, or further information needed just let me know.

Cheers,

Alan

Possibly an issue with the beta version of XQuartz - did you experience the same X11/XQuartz crashes with the latest stable version of XQuartz (2.7.1), or with one of the earlier betas?

Maybe ask on the mailing list 'xquartz-dev' about known issues with beta4?

To clarify: tested with
- Inkscape 0.48.2
from the official package: 32bit, Universal (PPC, i386)
- Inkscape 0.48.2, 0.48.3.1 and 0.48+devel
local 64bit builds on Lion 10.7.2, using up-to-date MacPorts for dependencies
- Inkscape 0.48.3.1 (local test builds)
built & packaged on Leopard (32bit, i386) with older versions of
cairo- and X11-related dependencies (xcb for cairo 1.10.2 disabled)

You're correct, it must be an issue with beta4, after installing XQuartz 2.7.1 everything seems to be working fine.

Thanks for the help.

Reproduced on OS X 10.7.2 with XQuartz 2.7.2_beta4 and local 64bit builds of Inkscape 0.48.2 (MacPorts) and Inkscape 0.48+devel r11155.

Setting bug status to 'Confirmed' for Inkscape for now, even if it is likely to be an upstream issue with latest XQuartz 2.7.2 beta4.

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → High
status: New → Confirmed
summary: - [OS X] Crash when clicking inside drawing area
+ [OS X] Crash when clicking inside drawing area with XQuartz 2.7.2 beta4

Upstream issue in XQuartz (xorg/xserver) confirmed and fixed in git master:

Many thanks to Jeremy Huddleston for the prompt response and fix!

I'll close the report for Inkscape as 'Invalid' once a newer beta (or final) release version of XQuartz 2.7.2 is available.

Closing - the newly released XQuartz 2.7.2_beta5 (xorg-server 1.12.1) fixes the issue:
<http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/xquartz-dev/2012-April/003584.html>

Please reopen (or file an upstream ticket for XQuartz) if the X server of 2.7.2_beta5 still crashes with Inkscape.

same problem I've had for every version of Inkscape I've ever tried in the last 2 years. It always crashes within 3 minutes of opening whenever I am editing an existing vector (e.g. pdf) file.

debug log is:

(lldb) r
Process 77257 launched: '/Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/bin/inkscape-bin' (x86_64)
inkscape-bin: Fatal IO error 35 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server /private/tmp/com.apple.launchd.g3rF5DL5mu/org.macosforge.xquartz:0.
Process 77257 exited with status = 1 (0x00000001)

system:
Darwin mwmac 14.5.0 Darwin Kernel Version 14.5.0: Wed Jul 29 02:26:53 PDT 2015; root:xnu-2782.40.9~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64

xquartz: 2.7.8 (2015.10.17)

inkscape: tried 0.48.5, 0.91, and latest dev snapshot as of 1/7/2016

Always the same problem: crash within 3 minutes, sometimes when I save, sometimes when I select, sometimes when I paste-- seems to be no single action that causes it. It's like, each time I use Inkscape, I get 25 commands and then kaboom
