Bug Description

I am trying to print a ledger format document on Kubuntu 11.10 and a Brother MFC-6490CW. I use Inkscape from the repository. The printer works well with the other applications I am using, although they show a different print dialog than Inkscape.

In the Document Properties dialog, the page size is set to Ledger/Tabloid and my artwork is centered on the page.

In the Print dialog, I select the MFC-6490CW Printer in the General tab. The Page Setup tab shows the right dimensions for the paper, but all Paper options (type/source/output tray/size/orientation) are grayed out.

In the Advanced tab I can select the Paper Source under the General heading. If I leave it Auto Select, it selects the wrong tray and prints on an 8.5x11. If I select Tray2 as source, it prints on the right size of paper, but it prints the exact same part of the document that it printed on the 8.5x11.

I know from a working application with a very similar printing dialog (Gimp) that where the same options are not grayed out, I only have to set Paper Size to tabloid and everything works perfect, but that option is grayed out as Not available in Inkscape. Why? Why is Inkscape limiting my ability to work with my printer as Gimp and other apps do?

Here is my workaround: print to PDF from Inkscape, then open with your PDF reader (Okular in my case). There the printer driver gives me full access to all the parameters. For my printer specifically, I need to set "MediaSize" and "PageRegion" to Tabloid in the "Advanced" tab. It seems that in the PDF file only the first one is set. Maybe this is what Inkscape does not set when printing directly to the printer?

When printing (to a HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP) the page as shown in Inkscape is not what is printed. The print is shifted right by about 6mm. MS Word prints exactly as it's UI indicates.

The print dialog is still a mess in Inkscape 0.91 and Xubuntu 14.04LTS.
* set Inkscape document to Ledger 11x17 format
* went through the print dialog
* the Paper selection drop downs for Paper type, Paper source, Output tray, Paper size and Orientation are all grayed out
* it printed on the wrong tray (Letter), kind of aligning the bottom left corner of the Inkscape document with the bottom left corner of the page, though loosing an estimate 0.5 to 1 cm from the corner.

Workaround: print to PDF from the print dialog works well and the resulting PDF can then be printed properly from the Document Viewer.
