Bug Description

I'm running the latest stable version of Inkscape for Windows. I have Ghostscript installed and it's in my PATH .. yet, I get this error message (or a very similar one) when I try to open or import an .EPS:
" Error reading temporary file: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'c:\\users\\graphi~1\\appdata\\local\\temp\\tmpzxefhp.svg' "

followed by "Failed to load the requested file C:\Public\Vector Logos\eps files\[filename].eps"

Path reads as follows: %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\DLLShared\;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\10.0\DLLShared\;C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.64\lib

Any thoughts? Running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.

Thanks for any ideas!

Anna

I created this bug from question 177456 (https://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/177456). I'm having the same problem. The odd thing is, this used to work for me, back when I used older versions of Inkscape and GhostScript.

As far as I know, 'C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.64\bin' needs to be added to %PATH% as well: Inkscape needs to be able to run ps2pdf from the ghostscript installation to convert the EPS/PS file to PDF on-the-fly - the import of the PDF file is then handled by internal routines).

Probably a duplicate of bug #442243.

Thanks for the reference to #442243. I wouldn't reply here except I already have both the .lib and .bin paths added to my system path variable...

The original reporter, or the question from Anna you hijacked, obviously did not…

In this case I would recommend that you provide details about your own system, currently installed Inkscape and Ghostscript version, as well about the configuration of Ghostscript.

With which versions (Inkscape, Ghostscript) on which version of Windows did it work for you earlier? Have you verified that the paths in %PATH% point to the directories of the current Ghostscript version and not the old ones?

Fixed it: my GhostScript was not up to date.

Current system: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
Inkscape: 0.48.2 r9819
GhostScript: was 9.02, now is 9.05.

Earlier today I also found that Scribus does a nice job of converting .EPS to .SVG.

Thanks for the feedback, glad you got it working again.

Since the issue in the bug description itself (question by Anna) has a missing %PATH% entry for the 'bin' directory of the Ghostscript installation, linking this report as duplicate to bug #442243.
