Bug Description
I never seem to want to have a background color be taken into consideration when exporting a selection as "hide all except selected". Going transparent and back is tedious, thus I end up having a background plane instead. When exporting for the web and/or for 3D texturing, you really don't want the background included.

The feature described in Bug #169623 'Canvas color option' is available as of revision 10784. It adds the ability to set the canvas background color without exporting it (background transparency is only used for export but not the canvas).
Could you see if it fits your need?
