Bug Description

Inkscape 0.48.2 r9819
Widows 7 x64 SP0

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open the attached svg file in Inscape.
2. Select the "W" on your screen with the Left Click.
3. Move your mouse away from the "W" and right click anywhere on the screen (as long as it isn't in the Bounding Box of the "W").
4. Now move your mouse back over the "W" and right click (the context menu from the previous right click should disappear)
5. Right click again on the "W" and a different context menu should show up.
6. Move your mouse down the list and left click on "Object Properties".

What happens:
Instead of getting the "Object Properties" window for the "W", you get it for the "i" instead.

What should happen:
The "Object Properties" window for the "W" should be the one to open instead of the one for the "i".

This has been reproducible on several different zoom levels as long as there is any item (as long as it's on a layer that isn't locked) that is touching the top left of the visible canvas. Otherwise, this bug doesn't happen.

Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.2 and 0.48+devel r10645 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (i386) with default (new) preferences file.

Following the steps as described, I failed to reproduce a situation where the 'Object Properties' dialog displayed the information of the upper left 'i' object while the mouse pointer was hovering the 'W' object when opening the dialog, no matter what zoom level and whether the 'i' touched (is cut off) by the upper left edges of the visible canvas area (rulers). It also didn't make a difference whether I right-clicked (step 3) an empty canvas area outside or inside the page area, or to the left, right or above the 'W'.

The window status (maximized by window manager, as the attached document has stored):
     inkscape:window-maximized="1"
has no influence: same results when working with the file after setting it (in an external editor) to
     inkscape:window-maximized="0"
and reducing the initial window size (e.g. to 1000x750).

Well, I can duplicate this as well in 0.48.1-2 without fail. Maybe this is a Windows only problem?

And some more testing, I renamed my Inkscape preference folder (so I could restore it afterwards if it wasn't the problem) so that my copy of 0.48.2 would create a new one to see if by some freak chance, there was any corruption in it. When I opened Inkscape again after doing that, I was able to reproduce this bug on the first attempt with the attached file.

Also, if this helps, my monitor is 1680x1050. Also, I was able to duplicate this when even if Inkscape wasn't maximized (just tested @ ~500x500 and still happened without fail).

And finally, the "i" has to be hidden partially by both rulers for this to happen on the top left. It doesn't happen with any other corner.

I'll try to see if I can duplicate this on XP (which I haven't installed Inkscape in before) sometime later today as I have my system setup to dual-boot, but don't log into XP that often unless it's absolutely necessary for me to.

If I can get it to duplicate in XP, I'll try to somehow get a video of it in action (no guarantees on being able to make a video).

@Alvin or @JazzyNico - could you test this on Windows?

tested on both Windows 7, 32 bit, Inkscape 0.48.2
and Windows XP, Inkscape rev 10627.
in both cases I cannot reproduce the bug 100% of the time but I can reproduce it often enough to be quite disconcerting.

- in step 6, if the information for "i" is shown, then the focus rectangle also shifts to "i" as well.
- in step 4, as far as I can tell, the failure occurs only if the right click is done while over the "W", there is never a failure if this step is clicked away from the "W"

- not sure if it is related but there is a problem with the sequence of events as well. For example:
- left click on "W" to put focus there
- right click on "i" to bring up menu
- note that the focus rectangle has not changed, is still on"W"
- left click on "Object Properties"
- get Properties window for "i" and note that the focus rectangle has shifted to "i" as it should.

- in this sequence, it was expected that the focus rectangle would shift from "W" to "i" as soon as the first right click was performed, not after the second left click.
