Installed fonts reported as being not installed

Trying to use the first pack of fonts that are freely downloadable from this page

When installed, they can't be selected in Inkscape, but they can in all other applications.
For example, when selecting the font HL Thuphap 1BK upgrade, the name gets trimmed down to HL Thuphap, and a triangle icon appears telling me the font doesn't exist. The font select dialogue window also produces the same kind of result. So far it doesn't seem like a duplicate of bug 667091.

Just a bet... maybe Inkscape sees a weight where it is the full name?

Linking as duplicate to Bug #212812 “Cannot select fonts with names containing a <number><letter> substring”. Please add a comment here and revert the duplicate status if you don't agree and think these are different issues.
