Bug Description

As of Inkscape 0.48.1, when editing node handles and snapping is enabled, the handles do not snap when using the Ctrl or Alt modifiers to adjust a node. I had a case tonight where I wanted two node handles to be vertical and equal length to each other, but discovered that they did not snap to a horizontal guide I set up to enforce this.

I understand that snapping may not be possible in certain conditions, e.g., using Ctrl+Alt in combination. But snapping with the Ctrl or Alt modifier by itself should not be much of an issue.

Reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.1 and 0.48.2 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (i386)

In current trunk (Inkscape 0.48+devel r10585), the node handle snaps (extends or shortens) to a guide while dragging with 'Ctrl' pressed (not with 'Alt' - preserve length - though).

Attaching the test file used to compare the different versions.

I've tested with Inkscape 0.48.3.1 and can tell that the issue is still there.
I've noticed that the 0.48.3.1 version isn't avaiable on the official web site, so I don't know if it's considered a stable version.

Anyway, I do know that in later develop versions (I just tested with Inkscape 0.48+devel r11435 before posting this), that bug seems to be dealt with.

So I wonder, if the 0.48.2 version is the latest stable release, why can't there be a 0.48.2.1 version where this bug is fixed? As I can imagine, the code that work should be present.
I would like to go ahead and use the latest develop version, but unfortunately it contains bug (#871792) that renders Inkscape useless.

Inkscape 0.48.3.1 is the latest official "stable" bug fix release - it has not yet been announced publicly on inkscape.org because we only want to announce it when pre-built packages for all supported platforms (besides linux) are available for download (this time, the packages for Mac OS X are delayed, with earlier bug fix releases we had to wait until the packagers for Windows had the time and resources to create and upload the installer). There will be no '0.48.2.1' bug fix release - we do plan however another bug fix release (0.48.4) before the next major version 0.49) gets out. Please keep in mind that not all "bug fixes" in the development branch can be backported to the stable branch (we try to do so whenever possible).

AFAIU there have been too many changes to snapping in the development branch. This makes it unfeasible to backport fixes for individual issues to the stable branch.

The snapping issues reported here have been resolved, right?

I'm going to close the bug report, but if this bug is still present then let me know and I'll investigate it!
