Bug Description

In Inkscape version 0.48
1- Write by hand with pencil the numbers 1 2 3
2- With eraser tool try to delete FIRST numbers 1 or 2
3.- Numbers 1 or 2 are not deleted
4.- Try to delete number 3
5.- Number 3 is deleted and now you can delete other numbers in the order you want.
6.- Is this behavior normal? I find it annoying and prone to cause error.

Try to deselect objects (last drawn object is being automatically selected). Now you can erase any object you want, not only the last drawn.

Not sure if you are referring to the pencil (freehand) tool or the calligraphy tool here - please clarify (In my experience, the calligraphy tool is more likely to be get used to create hand-drawn letters and numbers).

Notes:
- The calligraphy tool does have a preference setting whether the last drawn path is 'auto-selected' when done (double-click the calligraphy tool in the tool box to open the tool's preferences pane).
- If there is an active selection when switching to the eraser tool, only objects within the selection are eraser (useful setting IMHO).
- While working within the calligraphy tool context, you can also use the tool's own 'subtract' mode (with 'Alt') instead of the separate eraser tool, see also:
«To subtract from an existing (selected) path, hold the Alt down while drawing. Shapes are automatically converted to paths. »

dopelover and suv:
I use the calligraphy tool to create hand-drawn letters and numbers, and the pen tool to create straight lines, but the behavior that I am reporting is the same for pen, pencil or calligraphy.
Indeed, deselecting in calligraphy tool "Select new path" now I can erase strokes in any order, so, at least for the calligraphy tool my problem is solved, but remains for pen and pencil since they do not have the corresponding "Select new path".
Thanks for your answers.
