Inkscape hangs when opening SVG files (with SVG font) created by development matplotlib versions

Opening the attached file slow-inkscape with Inkscape 0.47 r22583 as well as Inkscape 0.48.1 r9760 (Jun 21 2011) built from source on Ubuntu 10.04 takes so long that I couldn't wait for it to finish. File fast-inkscape.svg loads just fine. The program to generate both files is also included.

Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.47, 0.48.0, 0.48.1 and 0.48+devel (r10325, 10330) on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (i386):
File 'test2.svg' opens without noticeable delay, as fast as 'fast-inkscape.svg'.
(tested with custom and default preferences)

Could you give a hint what "so long" could be (secs, minutes)?

Sorry, the first file got somehow mixed up, appended you find the correct one that breaks Inkscape on my machine.

I'd say that Inkscape actually hangs, because by now it has taken well over an hour without finishing yet.

Reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.1 and 0.48+devel r10341 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (i386)

'slow-inkscape.svg' opens and renders fine after deleting the <defs> section at the bottom which includes the SVG font definition (inkscape does not yet support embedded SVG fonts for rendering text on-canvas, though it should not prevent files from loading)
