Bug Description

On XP r10305 and all versions since gtk was updated in may.

First set of coordinates are entered with a normal mouse, second set with the Wacom stylus:

    <path
       ...
       d="M 186.06633,473.62339 549.74144,337.0942"
       ...
    <path
       ...
       d="m 198.30732,-417084660 c -0.0197,0 361.77073,-140 361.61331,-140"
       ...

When the error occurs, the following console output appears.

(inkscape.exe:2844): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from `(null)' to `GdkWindow'

Sorry, I can't test with my Wacom mouse, it's broken.

Which tool did you use to create the path? Is it limited to the calligraphy tool, or does it equally affect the pencil (freehand) and pen (bézier) tool?

The coordinates posted was made with the bezier tool, but the error appears with all tools.

The only way to solve this is to have someone test from the current GTK version backwards to find one which works as expected (obviously jumping back a number of releases is acceptable to try and narrow things down quicker). However, I don't know that any developers have the time, motivation, or ability to do this. While I don't like the regression, I don't consider it a blocker compared to the security issue we're looking to get patched with newer GTK libs.

On r 10568 (devlib r 24), this problem has disappeared.

I just tested for bug 284546 a few days ago and saw, that the problem with the calligraphic tool had disappeared.

As I made that test with the Wacom stylus, I also noticed that this bug had disappeared. I have no idea when this happened.

Hi!

Sorry about the stupid question, but I’m having exactly the same problem with a cheap tablet that I think derived from Wacom (Silvercrest, shown as Waltop by Inkscape). The coordinates are all wrongly interpreted. How could I test the ‘r 10568 (devlib r 24)’ above mentioned? I’ve not found it in this site.

Thanks in advance!

As an addition to my comment, I’ve tried using both on Windows XP and 7 and the behaviour is the same, even worse on Windows 7, where the pointer freezes from time to time (but this seems to be a non-Inkscape problem).

Sorry, but i'm not able to test anything, as my computer (and my economy) is broken after the Bangkok flooding. It will take a while before my economy is recovered, so I can bye a computer again.

The water went a few cm higher then my computer could withstand, but there may be a chance it can be repaired, when I get time to look at it.

Setting bug status to 'Incomplete' - needs verification by the reporter based on a recent build which uses the updated Windows devlibs (newer GTK+ stack).

Similar (or same) issue is tracked in newer Bug #845354 (with fix confirmed after updating to newer version of GTK+).
