Inkscape crashes on "Make selected nodes smooth"

Bug Description

Open the attached file in Inkscape 0.48 (Ubuntu 10.10)
Use "Edit paths by nodes" tool to select nodes of the "S" in the picture.
Click "Make selected nodes smooth"
Inkscape will now crash.

Reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.0 r9654 (crash report with backtrace attached)
Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.1 r9760 and 0.48+devel r10255
(tested on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (i386))

Linking as duplicate to Bug #662514 “crash on converting lots of line-points to smooth” (fixed in 0.48.1). Please add a comment here and revert the duplicate status if you don't agree and think these are different issues.
