pattern along a path strange results

the pattern along a path a inconsistent results. I make a pattern 4 squares of colours stacked in a coloumn then grouped together.
Use bezer too to create path. move column to top layer and select both items and apply tool (pattern along a path).
Results. 50% is doesnt work because bottom right edges become curved and the effect isnt created properly I have attached a pic.
And 50% the image works fine. I have shown I failed image and a proper version. This inconsistency appears to occur more often, I am unable to understand why. I have tried various remedies ( increasing node count in path for example)

In the image the top effect although missing the pattern is the wrong result. The effect result at the bottom is the correct one. The pattern is in the middle

the version I am using is v0.48.1 in windows 7 64bit

I confirm using the group of rectangles as pattern gives some weird results. I don't know if it's expected or not, but converting it to path seems to work better. Could you please confirm?

I selected the groups of blocks and didnt group them and then converted them
to a path. So far my tested has resulted in no problems if I dont group
them. But as soon as I group wierd happens.
