Bug Description

Inkscape produces false characters in LaTeX output for characters that were inputted in Inkscape with diaeresis, eg. ä and ö. My Windows locale is Finnish, so codepage windows-1252 or similar. Is there a way to tell Inkscape which input encoding to use?

@Johan - subscribing you to this report: Do you have an idea why this happens?

@Otto - could you attach sample files (SVG, + LaTeX output).

The input in Inkscape that I wrote in the box reads: "äöåäöåäöå." That is thrice a+diaeresis,o+diaeresis,a+ring. The LaTeX output is gibberish at least when read with all the text editors I have and typesetting with pdflatex produces an error.

The pdf_tex file uses utf-8 encoding, which will seem odd when viewed as any 8-bit fixed-width encoding. Errors with pdflatex are quite unexpected, though. If the .tex file is properly set up for Finnish, pdflatex should not error on those characters, though it may produce odd-looking results. See http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/Internationalization#Finnish

As a workaround, you can either convert the pdf_tex file from utf-8 to latin-1 / windows-1252 with a text editor (AFAIK even notepad can do that) or use utf-8 in your whole document.

i think we need to come up with a way to specify all these latex option requests (this bug report is sort of an option request :P)... shall I add a page in the preferences ?

Alternatively one could consider
b) using a second tab in the existing (PDF/EPS) export options dialog for the PDF/LaTeX options (might be confusing for many (or most?) users never having anything to do with LaTeX), or
c) creating a new LaTeX export extension (unified for EPS/PDF + LaTeX), with all options relevant for LaTeX documents (possibly organized with notebook pages aka tabs, too)

Now the only way to export is "LaTeX with PSTricks extensions". This produces a completely different result. It seems to have converted all characters to paths and I don't know how to control this.
Could someone re-test this?
