Bug Description

The file can be opened properly by image viewers. But inkscape display blocks of "linked image not found". I did open the extension and choose "image embed", but it did not work.

Those images link to files on the web, e.g.

<image fill="#000" width="29" height="22" xlink:href="https://www.google.com/chart?cht=tx&amp;chf=bg,s,FFFFFF00&amp;chco=000000&amp;chl=%5Cbar%7BK%5E%2B%7D"></image>

AFAIK inkscape neither loads images from online resources nor does the script to embed images grab the resources from the web.

How did you create the SVG file?

I exported the image from Google drawing.
I just want to convert the image file to eps format. I found inkscape, and it almost worked it out. Is there any way to work around?

I'm not aware of one in Inkscape (bar from saving the google-hosted image to your local disk, replacing the image link to the local copy in Inkscape (using 'Image properties…' from the context menu of the selected image), and then embedding it).

Not being familiar with Google Draw myself, I wonder if Google doesn't offer different export formats (e.g. EPS or PDF), or an SVG version for local or off-line viewing…

Thanks for your suggestion. But I still prefer SVG format which has best quality for vector graph while keeping the file size small.

For those people has similar problem as me, I found that if you export SVG from independent Drawing document in google doc then you can get any binary images in the file as local. I produced above problem by exporting images from a drawing inside a google document.

I was also having the problem of the "linked file..." error triggering. Some PDF files would import and others wouldn't. Files came from the same source. They are mechanical drawings. I tried reinstalling Inkscape from the downloaded copy I had (32 bit). I thought I had tried everything. I discovered one more thing to try.
I had originally installed Inkscape 0.91 as a 32 bit. So... I uninstalled again and deleted the download copy, and then, after realizing that Inkscape had separate 32 and 64 bit versions, I downloaded the 64 bit version and installed it. The previously unimportable files now import just fine. Problem solved. (hopefully!!)

I hope this helps someone.
