Text object looks like it has the focus, but doesn't

I was working on a file I was cleaning up. I created a new text object. I then set the font size to a value that wasn't in the font-size combo box using the toolbar. I was in another application and came back to Inkscape. There was a caret flashing in the text object, so I thought the text object editor had the focus. But it didn't. The font size edit box on the toolbar still had the focus. So as I started trying to manually kern the second character in the string, nothing was happening. Took me a while to figure out why.

Sorry. My test was with Inkscape build 0.48+devel r9983 (32-bit) on 64-bit Vista SP2.

So far I didn't manage to reproduce this with Inkscape 0.48.0 and 0.48+devel r9983 on OS X 10.5.8 (but maybe I don't understand the issue).

Will: the suspected duplicate, Bug #687517 was fixed in 2012. Can you still reproduce your problem with the latest Inkscape?

I don't remember how I triggered the bug. Since then, I've been on Windows 7 and now have Windows 10. However, I tried as best I could to reproduce it using 0.91. No success so the bug might be gone.
