Right clicking on the color palette spawn a menu where most of the choices are grayed out and are ever used. I think it would be more logical that left click applies fill color while right click applies stroke color. It's currently how it works in Corel Draw.
I don't know if some people share this personal preference with me.

Use 'Shift+click' to assign the swatch color to the stroke instead of the fill (no need for the context menu).

The three grayed-out menu entries in regular palettes are used in the 'Auto' palette to manage custom swatches <http:// wiki.inkscape. org/wiki/ index.php/ Release_ notes/0. 48#Custom_ Swatches>.
