Can't select text using click - [SHIFT+click]

If I've a text box with a text inside...example --> [...Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nam semper, turpis nec egestas venenatis, diam tortor laoreet risus, quis bibendum tellus dui at nulla. ...]

I want to select the text starting after the word "adipiscing" to the word "bebendum".
I used to left-click on the left character G of the word "adipiscing" and then left-click keeping pressed the button SHIFT after the M consonant of the word "bebendum" ...in this way I got the text [...elit. Nam semper, turpis nec egestas venenatis, diam tortor laoreet risus, quis bibendum ...] selected.

This method doesn't work anymore...it was really useful, fast and precise! It's kinda annoying having to select the text with the mouse...especially because you have to pay very attention where the mouse cursor stops.

I'm using 0.48 + devel r9931 under Windows 7 (64bit).
I'm not sure but I think this function stopped working 2releases ago included the one I'm using.

Testing with installed versions Inkscape 0.46, 0.47 and 0.48 on OS X, all show the same behavior: selecting (highlighting) text works as described in the manual for 0.47 <http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Text-Selection.html> with Shift+Arrows for characters (and additional modifiers for words and lines), and does not work with 'click' - 'Shift+cllick'.

It is also not mentioned in the manuals for older versions

By the way - it does work in the 'Text' tab of the 'Text and Font' dialog (in all tested versions).

Tested on Windows XP, from 0.45.1 to 0.48+dev, and none of these versions implements this shortcut.
