Bug Description

hi,

so my problem is that the inkscape is very slow when i use the pen tool in a maximized window (both in a new document as an open document), but when i use the pen in a window (400x400px), the tool has no problem.

When i run inkscape on the console:
** Message: need to add dynamic switch
** Message: need to add dynamic switch
** Message: need to add dynamic switch
** Message: need to add dynamic switch
** Message: need to add dynamic switch
.....
And when i use the pen tool:
(inkscape:25347): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `object->ref_count > 0' failed

(inkscape:25347): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `object->ref_count > 0' failed
.....

Anyone have an idea??? i cant work in a small window or with a slow tool. only do this with the pen and shape tool, i use archlinux (i686) and Inkscape 0.48.0 r9654 (pacman: inkscape 0.48.0-4).
Thanks

Not reproduced on Ubuntu 10.04, Inkscape trunk revision 9925.
No slowness, no error message (tested with the windows manager's full screen, Inkscape's [F11] and Inkscape's extra full screen [Shift+F11]).

tested with Inkscape's <F11> and Shift+<F11>, with 'Maximize' of the OS X window manager and when running X11 full-screen (X11 root window)

Do you use extended input devices like a tablet and pen?

mmm, this is strange; when i use inkskpe in Shift+F11 (forgot that option) the error wasnt appear and i can work as always. In F11 the error continues. i supouse that the problem is in a inkscape's bar.

And yes, i have one genius Tablet with the wizardpen driver 0.8.0-2. But connected or not, the error still present.

@JL_somirp, ValentinV - I've tried again with a Bambo tablet, this time, but didn't notice any slowness or error message. Do you use a specific desktop theme? If so, do you still notice the same behavior if you switch to your system's default theme?

Unbelievable no it ain`t slow with ambiance theme ... i just can`t believe a theme has such a effect.

So now when i want to work in inkscape i need to switch to the defaul theme ... that ain't nice but i'm glad it works.
Thanks Nico

@ValentinV - Could you please tell us which theme causes slowness with Inkscape so that we could try to reproduce this issue and investigate?
Thanks!

Completely forgot about this earlier report:
Bug #671536 “Pen (Bezier) tool is extremly slow”

Possibly the cause here is the same: textstyle option set to 1 (for textshadow) for all GtkWidgets (Murrine theme engine), or at least related to a similar (experimental) theme setting.

hi, escuse me for the tardiness of my response.
ive eliminated a panel from inkscape; the status bar (view > show/hide > statusbar) and thats work for me very well.

and dont remember the theme i had (im change it few weeks ago) but i think was a murrine. In the theme i have now, im activate the status bar and no problem, so i agree with you, its the theme.

I'm using a custom theme it is called Radiance Osliner Extended .

And it also looks that the tip provided by ~suv is working

Hello,

can this be fixed in Inkscape or it is just a Murrine problem?

Is this still happening with 0.91 or 0.92?
