tool request: simple warping

Hello,

I would like to have a tool in Inkscape to get perspective into flat images:
The ability to move the corner-points of a rectangular, possibly free placement,
and all intermediary points are interpolated linearly. Mathematically it cannot
be very difficult, but redraw performance might be another issue.

I hope I made my wish clear.

Would this be possible? I have not found such a feature in Inkscape 0.46

I found that 0.48 does more-or-less what I want,
via Path > Object-to-Path and Extensions > Modify Path > Perspective

In Inkscape 0.46 this does nothing
