Color gradients paint very slowly

version 0.48 is very slow to paint color gradients on the screen.
Sure I can reduce the filter display quality for Gausian soft lens and for the effect quality but so far I remember I got a better quality and a dramatically faster speed in inkscape 0.47.

I check this on a
Apple iMac 27" i5 with 8GB RAM
Apple MacBook Pro 13" 4GB RAM

On ubuntu inkscape 0.48 feels sluggish (this is a Core2Duo @2.53GHz with r600 grafics) - the 0.47 was much better, but on 10.10 that version does not compile anymore ... (this happens with the precompiled binaries, but also a newly compiled version from bzr)

There are also drawing artefacts on the rulers (see screenshot)

Unfortunately I can confirm the sluggishness too.
Inkscape version: 0.48
Ubuntu: 10.10 64bit

In the attached video you can see that even the drawing of its own About screen is unacceptably slow.

AMD X2 DualCore 3ghz, 8gb ram, x64, very very slow when the file gets bigger and complex.

very annoying, fast GFX card and no use with inkscape gts450 ........ i cant make any big pictures cause all i do is wait and pray that the program wont crash. please fix that or build a openGL plugin or anything.

Let's keep this for color gradient slowness. So no rambling about general slowness etc.
Looking forward to a re-test on 0.91 or 0.92.
