starting inkscape takes over 40 secs

Hi there,

using inkscape-0.47 on Ubuntu 10.04 it takes over 40 secs to start inkscape:

 $ time inkscape

 real 0m46.564s
 user 0m42.723s
 sys 0m0.296s

I didn't experience that with openSUSE 11.1, but inkscape needed almost 60 secs to start in a previous Mandriva version (https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=42492#c3).

There must be something on my configuration, but I don't know what it might be.

I will attach the proper log, if you tell me how to get it. (Sorry, but I don't know how to do it).

If both 0.46 and 0.47 take both a long time to start - do you have many fonts installed?

Could be the same issue as reported in bug #418726 “Very long startup time with many fonts installed - no visual feedback”

BTW, how many fonts are “many”?

Using "fc-list : file" gives 2148 entries.

These are probably too many fonts.

Is there no way to make inkscape to load them faster?

In this case I propose to revert the current duplicate status and link this report to bug #418726. Please add a comment here and revert the (changed) duplicate status if you don't agree and think the number of fonts does not noticeably slow down the start of Inkscape.
