Bug Description
If you have a file that contains certain objects (grouped or ungrouped) and you want to use the eraser option, applying that tool will delete the entire figure. It doesn't provide a mechanism for controlled erasing, meaning the capability to erase certain areas of the object(s).

The eraser tool has two modes: tavmjong. free.fr/ INKSCAPE/ MANUAL/ html/Eraser. html>
- delete touched objects
- cut-out from touched objects

1) In 'Delete objects touched by the eraser' mode, to erase individual objects inside a group you can double-click to enter the group. The eraser will then affect individual objects inside this group as well as all other touched objects outside.
Maybe an option on the toolbar for the 'Delete touched objects' mode to affect individual objects and ignore any grouping might be useful, similar to how the tweak tool currently works. Noticing that this feature of the tweak tool was reported as an error as well (bug #410817), it seems to me that 'treat objects inside a group as if there were ungrouped' should be implemented as an option and not a new default.
2) With regard to errors in 'cut-out' mode see bug #280479 “eraser tool and non paths don't play nicely ”.
