Bug Description

In comaperison to the 0.46, the newest version, 0.47 eports DXF files with way too many plotter points. I can take the same file in both versions and export them as a DXF, however, 0.47 creates a file that is almost a third again as large as the previous version and it takes an extra three and a half hours to run through a cutter.

The previous version 0.46, takes 30-40 minutes with the same settings.

The same file, opened and converted with 0.47 took 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Also, on an unrealated note, the simplification tool for 0.47 is not as accurate as 0.46 using the same settings.

This is the same SVG file opened and exported with 0.47 as a DXF.

Could you attach the original SVG used to export the DXF files as well?

it looks as if you have used the ROBO Master option when generating the output. Could you try un-checking this option and see if that helps? (This will not affect the size of the output, but it will affect the shape of the spline elements)

Here is the original SVG. This was created in 0.47. I opened it in 0.46 for the DXF comparison. Otherwise both files were created from this.

attached is the dxf file produced by Inkscape 0.47 with the ROBO option unchecked. Could you try this and see if it helps?

Yes, this reduces the output by 2/3 and makes the file take an hour and some change to cut at a DXF.

Can you tell me somethign totally unrealted? In InkScape 0.46 I was able to simplify a shape using a threshold of 0.0001 to 0.0003 without sacrificing too mich of its original shape.

In the newest version, I can only set the threshold to 0.0001 otherwise it ajust all the straight lines to be curves.

Also in the preferences there is a new Latencey menu item in the Misc section under the Simplification Threshold, but I cannot find this in the InkScape manual.

Is there anyway to get the simplification flexibility back I had in 0.46?

sorry, I am not familiar with those features, but you may find some info in the release notes:

however, I have to ask the question, why are you trying to simplify the path? Are you trying to convert splines into straight lines? If so, have you tried the menu item Extensions->Modify Path->Flatten Beziers?

No, I havent. I will have to try that just to see how it works. Really I am just simplifying the shape to remove some nodes so that the DXF has less to deal with on the export and it creates a smaller, smoother cutting file.

any objections if we mark this as fixed, since the original issue appears to be resolved?

That is fine by me. Thanks.

good to hear. In that case, if there is no objection, I'll mark this as invalid in order to get it off the list of things to do.

With respect to the Simplify option, if that continues to be a problem feel free to raise a new bug report concerning Simplify.

Changed in inkscape:
