import ps: bad paper format

Bug #505991 reported by bomastudio on 2010-01-11

Bug Description

In .47 version trying to import a *.ps file (a drawing exported from Qcad) with paper size A4 is OK. But changing paper size, eg A2, Inkscape doesn't import the drawing correctly: only a "cropped" part of the paper.

looks like the same issue as described in
Bug #264044 “inkscape19770 import/open eps clips drawings larger than sheet width”
Bug #471199 in Inkscape: “Importing EPS Clips Image”

AFAIU this one and bug #471199 are duplicates of or closely related to bug #264044 though there is probably a difference how PS and EPS store paper sizes that are recognized by 'gs' (or ps2pdf). The problem is that ps2pdf (used by Inkscape for PS and EPS import) uses a default paper size of US Letter Portrait and crops (not clips) the converted files to US Letter if no other page size is specified on the command line (using -sPAPERSIZE= or -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=w -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=h).

(see also comment #3 in bug #471199 and in <> my irc conversation with zakkum about a similar problem)

Marking as duplicate of Bug #649842 (import from EPS ignores bounding box), which is fixed in 0.48.1 and the trunk.
Please comment and revert this status if you still have this issue with recent Inkscape versions.

Reverting duplicate status:
Not fixed by the changes for Bug #649842 (the option '-dEPSCrop' used for Ghostscript does only apply to EPS files, but not PS files).

su_v (suv-lp) wrote :

Reproduced with Inkscape and 0.48+devel r11679 on OS X 10.7.4
(gs 9.05, poppler 0.20.3, cairo 1.12.2)

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Confirmed
