Preferences dialog / location of preferences.xml

This is a wishlist item - to be assigned to Jon Cruz

Sometimes it's necessary to trash the preferences file. It would be helpful if the location of this file was noted in the preferences dialog somewhere. System Info is listed under Misc in Preferences, but not the specifics of preferences.xml which is in .config/inkscape on my system (ubuntu)

Alternatively... a mechanism to reset all the preferences from within the user interface could also be a good thing?

+1 on that!
On Windows XP there are three directories that I know of that are non-trivial in the sense that they are not immediately underneath Inkscape, and that everyone should know how to find: they are

- for extensions (command line option '-x')
C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\extensions

- for preferences.xml
C:\Documents and Settings\Alvin Penner\Application Data\Inkscape

- for temporary files, in case of a crash
C:\Documents and Settings\Alvin Penner\Local Settings\Temp

It would be good if all three of these directories were listed in the Preferences dialog, along with a description of their use.

Attached is a listing of the System Info shown in Preferences on my machine. Most of the info in this list could be removed with no ill effects and replaced with the above info. In this list I have placed an X beside those entries that either do not exist, or are duplicates, or do not contain any relevant information.

The users preference file location is now explicitly listed in Preferences->System.
