Bug Description

Description:
Inkscape crashes directly on startup all of a sudden. It worked fine yesterday, and crashes today. I did not installed any new software or the like.
I tried to reinstall Inkscape in different directories but no avail. Appears to be releated to mingwm10.dll .

Windows gives me an APPCRASH window right after starting inkscape.

Steps to reproduce :
Starting Inkscape

System:
Windows 7 Ultimate

GDB output:
Reading symbols from e:\GRAPHICS\inkscape47\inkscape.exe...(no debugging symbols
 found)...done.
(gdb) run
Starting program: e:\GRAPHICS\inkscape47\inkscape.exe

Same problem on Windows 7 Professional, reinstall doesn't solve it.

Could you try to trap the exit messages that are generated, using the utility program Inkscapec.exe, as described at :
http://kaioa.com/node/63
This will require that you run the program Inkscapec.exe from a DOS prompt in the same directory where Inkscape is.

When running Inkscapec.exe from a DOS prompt the same crash occurs. Same error messages as in the screenshot by Kares.

Inkscape started to work again today but just as this morning it didn't work at all.
I haven't made any changes on my system, but this is not a first timer, seems to happen randomly.
Inkscapec.exe doesn't output any errors except for a font family.

Could it be related to other software running at the same time that loads its own version of mingwm10.dll which then conflicts with the one Inkscape was built with?

I have no idea. I usually run the same programs while i'm working so I don't think that's the problem but is there any way I can find out?.

I thinky ou could trysearching for mingwm10.dll on your computer. if it pops up more than once and in the installation folder of a programm you are using daily... you found the duplicated mingwm10 .

I have two mingwm10.dll files, one used by Inkscape and the other one by FileZilla.

One thing you could try for the duplicates idea is to try isolating mingw10.dll. Start Command Prompt, and do the following:
    cd /d E:\GRAPHICS\inkscape47
    set PATH=E:\GRAPHICS\inkscape47;%WINDIR%;%WINDIR%\system32
    inkscape
Then, if it crashes still, the problem is not due to multiple versions of mingwm10.dll clashing (however I think it should still work, it's possible there's some other dependency needed though, if so we should probably know about them).

However, I think that the issue is unlikely to be in mingwm10.dll but rather in something which sends mingwm10.dll an instruction which makes things crash - much the same as programs can crash with a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error" (mingwm10.dll does some of the same sorts of things as msvc[rp]NN.dll, for MinGW-compiled applications). One possible thing that springs to mind with the error message given is threading - did you change the number of threads Inkscape will use at all?

Also you can try renaming %APPDATA%\Inkscape to something else so it'll use a new profile; it's possible that there's profile corruption.

Finally, was it Inkscape-0.47-3.exe (Inkscape 0.47 final) that you installed from, or is it a development build?

I don't know if this also helps necro69, but I (think) narrowed down my crash problem to the Microsoft Language Packs.
As I deinstalled a language pack for Windows 7 Ultimate I installed once, Inkscape was working fine again. I reinstalled the language pack and this time Inkscape did not crash. May have been a faulty install in my case.
I don't know if it possible to download these language packs on Professional, but there are tools that let you install these language pack for other Version of Seven besides Ultimate. Maybe necro69 did that.

I haven't installed any language pack so I don't think that's the problem.
As I said it started worked yesterday out of nowhere (I didn't touch the system), but that as already happen before.
This only bugs me because sometimes I really have to work with windows because with GNU/Linux everything seems fine.
I'm shure we're not the only ones with this problem...

Answering Chris Morgan, I'm using Inkscape 0.47 final.

I'm having the same issue. I've tried adding the Inkscape install folder to PATH as mentioned above, still a no-go. I also tried renaming the installation folder as recommended, and still to no avail.
