Inkscape quits immediately

Although I have administrator privs, the system will not allow me to create a folder name starting with a period, and without the period Inkscape quits immediately.

OS X 10.6.2 Inkscape 0.46 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 S DRAM user experience 16 years

Inkscape 0.46 doesn't run on Snow Leopard due to incompatible library versions. You can wait for the stable release of Inkscape 0.47 or test the latest prerelease build from <http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/inkscape/0.47pre4/>.
