Bug Description

Import corel draw files does not work properly on windows (xp sp3). There is no crash or any error message, but the result is empty page, incomplete or corrupted data. People who use linux say cdr files import works ok on that OS.

- attched is a .cdr file that loads properly in Windows XP using Inkscape 0.47pre3.
- could you try this on your machine?
- when you look at the file types in the Open dialog, do you have an entry for "Corel DRAW 7X4 files"
- when you load the file, do you get a temprary black DOS window that says "python.exe"

I've tried this file. It seems ok (attached file is exported bitmap).
Entry for "Corel DRAW 7X4 files" and temprary black DOS window that says
"python.exe" are present.

Have those you can't import have any text as part of the drawing? UniConverter - the python program that is called by the Inkscape extension system to convert CDR files to SVG files before import - can't handle text objects yet:
<http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.47#UniConvertor-based_import_and_export>

could you
- attach a file that fails to open in Inkscape, or
- convert it on the command line with the UniConverter that comes with Inkscape to test if this produces the same result (empty SVG)?
(@Alvin - do you have more detailed instructions how to do this?)

The file attached is opened empty in inkscape.

attached the import result with Inkscape 0.46+devel r22389 on OS X 10.5.8 with Python 2.6.2 and UniConvertor 1.1.5 prerelease.

Looks like a bug in UniConverter 1.1.4? You could ask about this in the forum for UniConverter bugreports at <http://sk1project.org/forum/viewforum.php?forum_id=6>.

well, this is most interesting. When I load the file diagram.cdr into Inkscape (Windows XP), I get a completely blank sheet. All of the lines have the attribute : style = stroke:none; fill:none.

- workaround is to use Edit->Select All, then use Object->Fill and Stroke, and set the stroke to some non-blank value to get the attached result which looks similar to 442010-diagram.svg

- strictly speaking this is a uniconvertor bug which has been fixed. Inkscape for Windows currently ships with uniconvertor 1.1.3. If I run uniconvertor 1.1.3 from a DOS prompt to do this conversion I get the same problem. If I run uniconvertor 1.1.4 from DOS (on a different machine) the problem disappears.

- to run it from DOS use the command : uniconv diagram.cdr myoutput.svg

pre4 still uses version 1.1.3. Any plans on updating it or we are too late on the freeze state?

Not only UniConverter - the other bundled Python modules lxml and numpy are also dated in current win32 and osx packages (see bug #448285).

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Confirmed

diagram.cdr shows red dots for me in Inkscape. The lines and axes do not show.
